“Japan” seeks to enhance its participation in the renewable and clean energy market in “Qatar”

April 28, 2024

His Excellency Satoshi Maeda, Ambassador of Japan to Qatar, stressed his country's aspiration to play a pivotal role in advancing the transformation towards renewable and clean energy in Qatar, by providing its extensive experience and advanced innovations in this field.

Maeda pointed out Tokyo's commitment to supporting Qatar in achieving its ambitious goals in the field of clean energy, noting that Japan possesses distinguished technologies in waste management, energy efficiency and conservation, which makes it a strategic partner in achieving this goal.

The participation of the Japanese company Marubeni in the North Power Plant, which is the first large-scale solar power plant in Qatar, is the best example of fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

This station, which includes more than 1.8 million solar panels, contributes to saving approximately 2 terawatt-hours of electricity annually. Which enhances Qatar's efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Mitsubishi Research Institute is conducting a study in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Qatar, which aims to determine the best ways to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Qatar recognizes the importance of transitioning towards renewable and clean energy, and has set ambitious goals aimed at generating 20% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, and achieving a carbon-free footprint by 2050.

These ambitious goals contribute to consolidating Qatar’s position as a leading country in the field of clean energy, and enhance its efforts in achieving sustainable development goals.

Cooperation between Japan and Qatar in the field of renewable and clean energy represents an ideal model of fruitful partnership and strategic integration between two countries that possess complementary experiences and skills. This partnership contributes to advancing sustainable development and enhancing the efforts of the two countries in combating climate change and building a more sustainable future.
