“Brazil” has achieved a huge leap in wind energy…and is placing its foot in the ranks of leading countries

April 30, 2024

Brazil has achieved a new milestone in the field of renewable energy. It succeeded in increasing its wind energy capacity for the third year in a row. The year 2023 witnessed the production of 4.8 gigawatts of new wind energy, bringing the total cumulative installed capacity to more than 30 gigawatts. Which places the country among the leading countries in the field of energy transition.

These achievements are due to the Brazilian government's commitment to developing wind energy, the recovery of the economy, the House of Representatives' approval of the offshore wind energy bill, and Brazil's joining the Global Offshore Wind Energy Alliance.

Wind energy contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, enhancing energy security, creating new job opportunities, and attracting foreign investments.

Brazil is looking forward to further expansion of wind energy in the coming years, applying for environmental licenses to implement 96 offshore wind projects, supporting the new industrial plan “New Industry in Brazil” and new legal legislation for a faster energy transition.

The World Wind Council stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as academia and civil societies, to ensure continued progress in the field of wind energy in Brazil.
