Establishing a solar energy station within the Arab Open University in “Oman”

May 2, 2024

The Arab Open University, Amman Branch, reached an agreement with the “Solar Wadi” company to establish a station within the university to produce electricity using solar energy, under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation in the Sultanate of Oman, Professor Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqiyya.

The project's production capacity is expected to reach approximately 1.2 megawatts of high-quality bifacial solar panels from N-TYPE TOPCON technology, which will be installed using special parking structures. The project will provide charging stations for electric cars and shaded parking areas.

The project will generate a large portion of the university’s electrical needs during the day, which will have a positive impact on the university’s electricity cost. The agreement was signed by the university’s president, Dr. Mohammed bin Hamdan, in addition to the chairman of the board of directors, Mustafa Al-Hinai.

The project is considered important in light of the rapid development of the renewable energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman, and must be embraced by modern clean technology universities.

Solar Wadi is considered one of the first renewable energy companies to build, own and manage. The company was established by a group of Omani pension funds and investors in addition to international solar energy developers, most of which is owned by Omani shareholders. The company devotes its efforts to harvesting renewable energy in an environmentally responsible manner as part of the global shift away from fuels. Fossil.
