August 21, 2024

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the Russian-Chinese energy partnership is flourishing and that Russia is a leading supplier of oil, gas, and other energy carriers, including nuclear, to China.

Mishustin explained during the 29th periodic meeting of the Russian-Chinese joint state committee in the presence of Chinese Premier Li Qiang that “the partnership in the energy field is developing, Russia occupies a leading position in oil exports to China, and we will soon occupy the first place in natural gas supplies. Joint cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy is progressing, and we are also developing industrial cooperation,” he said.

The head of the Russian government added that Western countries are trying to contain the economic and technological potential of Russia and China, so efforts should be focused on protecting common interests.

For his part, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang expressed full confidence in the further deepening of cooperation between Russia and China, pointing out that mutual investments between Russia and China continue to grow and the quality and volume of cooperation in the energy field are increasing.

Russia and China have strategic relations, especially in the field of energy, and the two countries are members of regional organizations such as “BRICS” and “Shanghai Cooperation”.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced that trade exchange between Russia and China in the first half of this year increased by 4.8%, registering 113 billion dollars.

In the first seven months of 2024, Russia supplied China with 62.577 million tons of crude oil worth 37.341 billion dollars, an increase of 3.17% over the same period last year (2023).

Last year, the Russian government predicted that the volume of trade between Russia and China would rise by the end of 2030 to the level of 300 billion dollars.
