Russia Threatens to Ban Gasoline Exports Again

July 16, 2024

A ban on gasoline exports will likely be re-imposed in August in a move to prevent shortages in the local market, Alexander Novak, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, revealed.

The final ban decision will be taken by the end of July, Novak explained, confirming that the local fuel market is currently stable.

There are some difficulties in providing gasoline with a purity of 95, which is the preferred type among consumers in Russia, Novak pointed out, stressing that steps are being taken to address these problems.

While Novak did not specify specific reasons for the possible resumption of the ban, his statements were made in light of concerns about the high demand for fuel locally during the peak season.

A similar ban was imposed on gasoline exports from Russia in March this year and lasted for six months before it was lifted at the end of June.
