TAQA Completes Financing for SATROP Expansion in Saudi Arabia

August 22, 2024

Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), in collaboration with Japan’s largest power generation company, JERA, has successfully secured financing for the expansion of the SATROP plant in Saudi Arabia. The project, a new industrial facility for co-generating electricity and steam, will supply the petrochemical complex in Jubail, located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom. While the financing amount was not disclosed, the project follows a March 2024 agreement between TAQA, JERA, and Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATROP), a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies. The new co-generation facility will produce approximately 475 megawatts of electricity and 452 tons of steam per hour using high-tech combined cycle gas turbines. The plant was developed by a special-purpose company.
