The European Commission has introduced new regulations for the European Union (EU) aimed at reducing emissions from farms and large industrial facilities. Member states have been given two years to incorporate these regulations into their national laws.
The new legislation is projected to cut major air pollutants within the EU, including particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide, by up to 40% by 2050.
Industrial companies will have a four-year window, starting in 2028, to implement the latest available technologies, while farmers will be subject to the rules from 2030.
Companies found violating these regulations could face fines of up to 3% of their annual sales. Authorities will also possess increased powers to temporarily shut down non-compliant factories.
