The UAE builds the largest two-gigawatt solar power plant

November 30, 2023

The UAE has announced plans to build Al Dhafra station, which will be the largest solar power plant with a capacity of 2 gigawatts.

The station is part of the UAE’s efforts to enhance its energy industry to reduce carbon emissions, achieve sustainable development goals, and support the UAE’s national economy.

Station construction is compatible with COP28, which is scheduled to be held in the UAE at the end of December.

Upon completing Al Dhafra station, the UAE will lead the world in reducing carbon emissions and adopting clean energy, represented by wind power and solar energy. This will contribute to building a bright future that enables the next generation to live in a safe and clean environment.

Al Dhafra Solar Power Station is located 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi. It is expected to provide 200,000 homes with electricity and reduce about 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

The project was built on an area of 20 square kilometers. It provides 4500 job opportunities, which helps to reduce the unemployment rate in the country. Al Dhafra Solar Power Station stands out from other solar power plants due to its 4 million bifacial solar panels, a novel and cutting-edge technology that increases solar energy production efficiency while lowering prices.
