The UAE Exports Green Ammonia from Egypt to Europe

July 21, 2024

The Emirati Company “Fertiglobe” plans to export green ammonia from Egypt to Europe, an important step toward achieving sustainability goals in the region.

This €397 million deal is a strong boost to the growth of Egypt’s green hydrogen sector and strengthens its position as a global center for clean energy production.

Fertiglobehas signed a contract worth 397 million euros to supply green ammonia from Egypt to the European Union starting in 2027.

Green ammonia will be produced using green hydrogen, making it a zero-carbon fuel.

The export contract depends on the completion of the investment agreement for the “Egypt Green Hydrogen” project, which will produce the hydrogen needed to produce ammonia.

The “Egypt Green Hydrogen” project is the first integrated green hydrogen production plant on the continent of Africa and has the potential to revolutionize the energy sector in the region.

Fertiglobewill produce green ammonia at its plant on the coast of the Gulf of Suez using green hydrogen produced in the “Egypt Green Hydrogen” project.

It is estimated that the “Egypt Green Hydrogen” project could create up to 14,000 new jobs and contribute to Egypt’s GDP by US$2 billion annually.

Exporting green ammonia from Egypt to Europe will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and supporting efforts to combat climate change. The deal will also contribute to attracting foreign investment to the green hydrogen sector in Egypt and enhancing the country’s position as a global center for clean energy production.
