July 30, 2024

Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Chiboub, has signed six memorandums of understanding with a group of international companies to produce green hydrogen in the country. The agreements include contracts with the British-Maltese consortium TUNUR, Norway’s Aker Horizons, Austria’s Verbund, Britain’s Savannah Energy, France’s Hydrogène de France, France’s Amarenco, Jordan’s H2 Global, Belgium’s DEME Hyport, and Germany’s Abo Energy.

Minister Chiboub stated that these agreements aim to achieve the national strategy for green hydrogen and its derivatives by 2050. The strategy focuses on attracting investments and leveraging national potential while developing the country’s industrial and energy infrastructure. It seeks to enhance the industrial sector by building an advanced institutional framework for green hydrogen and utilizing national expertise and skills.

The project aspires to produce 8.3 million tons of green hydrogen and its derivatives by 2050, including 2.3 million tons for the local market and 6 million tons for export, with total investments estimated at around 120 billion euros.
